Safe CPU temp

Hi guys. I just finished building my new i7 2600k setup and I'm a bit concern about my cpu temp.

Here's my specs:

CPU: i7 2600k oclocked 4.8 @ 1.365v
Mobo: MSI Z68 G80
Cooling: Antec Kuhler 920
Video: EVGA 480GTX (stock)
PSU: Silent Cooler Master 1200W
RAM: 16gig Ripjaws
HDD: 1TB Black WD

So far using prime 95 for stability for an hour, my maxed temp 70 77 76 71 and this during prime95 stress test. Idle around 36 41 40 36.

Would you say this is safe side with 1.365vcore @ 4.8?

Any input would be great.

Im not that familiar with these procs but I think most people try to keep them under 70 so Id say you might be a little high.

Ya, I feel the same. It's just that no matter what I do, I can't seem to make my temp go lower. I've reseated Kuhler920 so many times already and this is the best result I've got so far. Although Antec Kuhler software shows my Pump Rpm is constantly at 2880-3000 rpm

I would say those temps are fine. Below 75-80 is what I say for Intel Core i processors.

I hold 75C as the safezone for my 2600k - that is during the nastiest of stress tests..during gaming, it runs about 57C tops. - In other words, your temps are fine as long as you're stable

I disagree with those claiming 77c in Prime95 to be fine. The recommended maximum safe temps for 24/7 overclocks generally relate to IBT/Linx. Running this test you will easily break into the 90s.

Run at least 10 rounds of Linx with AVX pack and see if the temp rises above 80 degrees or not.If you didn't install AVX pack then Linx won't push your 2600k to its limit.

I havent try Linx w/ AVX which I dont even know what it is. I'll do some research later, but right now, playing several source games seems stable for an hour. I'll install Mass Effects 2 and batman AA later and see if that would push the CPU a little.

my cpu becomes unstable above 70+, so keep it under 65c or so you'd be fine

Under 80 in LinX/P95 is OK. Ive found P95 and LinX to give similar temps with SB cpus. However you should be using Small FFTs if youre using Prime. If your not, i doubt your actually stable.

FWIW I run mine a bit faster than yours with similar temps, no issues since launch.

edit: new built seems stable for 2hrs of small FFTs prime95 and no longer BSOD after I upped the DRAM voltage to 1.575v. highest temp i got using prime is 79c. I'll leave it as it is for now.

Google "intel burn test" and get the 2.51 version (or newer). That is the first version with Sandy Bridge support and it's the same testing as as LinX. Extract the files somewhere, open the Intel Burn Test (IBT) app, set the "Stress level" drop down to "Very High", change the "Times to run" to 25, change "Threads" to 8, then click "Start." Post back here with the temps, it doesn't take too long to run.

This will fail on some bad overclocks much faster than Prime. Also note that if you run across some threads where people are noting a similar speed and voltage to yours, but report temps much lower, they likely had the old version of IBT that wasn't optimized for Sandy Bridge and would not work the CPU as hard.
