I was wondering what would be safer money wise? (As in, wasting money.) I'm thinking about purchasing a DFI NFII Infinity with an AthlonXP 2500+ and some pc3500 ram.

My question is, would it be safer to purchase pc3200 ram and run the processor at 2.2ghz, or would it be ok to go with the pc3500 and try to go for 217FSB? If my chances of 217fsb with a 2500+ are slim, then I'd rather go with the pc3200 for tighter timings sake.

The processor will be cooled by a Vantec Aeroflow. If anyone has any better air cooling suggestions then please let me know. Thanks.

Buy pc3500 and a 2400 mobile chip, those things pc beyond all words

Some say the mobile 2500+ OCs better than the 2400+ (Check NewEgg or Monarch Computers for a good price).
Aeroflow cools well, but I find it too loud. Current recommendations are for Thermalright SP-97 with a Panaflo 80mm or 92mm, or Zalman CNPS 7000A/ALCU.

Alright, sounds good. But aren't the mobile chips running 266mhz FSB stock? And is it a sure thing that the multiplier is unlocked?

Also, anyone suggest another board? I heard a lot of good things about the DFI boards and the Infinity was nice and cheap, so I figured I'd go for that.

I had a bit of trouble installing Windows on my Infinity, but other than that, it's a really, really good board for the 2400 Mobile (which I also have, multipliers are unlocked) because the Infinity can reach insanely high FSB speeds, and if you have an adjustable multiplier, all that means is more bandwidth. :)

I also have a Zalman CNPS-7000A-Cu on this thing, and it cools very well.

I would whole-heartedly recommend that setup.

Word. I'm running a P4 2.4ghz right now, so I wanted to try and get 12x200 out of the 2400. I just want to make sure the 2400+ m is just as good as the 2500+ m.

Also, what kind of problems did you have installing windows on the Infinity?

Mobile Bartons are stock 266MHz. 45 watt heat output for a 2500+ leaves lots of room for good air-cooled OC. AFAIK, all mobile Bartons are unlocked (for power management).

Abit fan here. I love my NF7-S (I have 2). Solid board, good BIOS features, on-board NIC and SATA. Also a good company-sponsored forum (AbitUSA). Widely available <$100.

I use GeIL RAM which is often times incompatible with the DFI board, but once I intsalled the latest motherboard drivers and update to the beta 1/21 BIOS, everything runs perfectly stable.

I also like the NF-7, I have one myself as well.

theyre the exact same thing, see OCing takes advantage of the fact that many chips are the exact same thing, just running at different speeds. The 2400+ is the same thing as the 2500+ is the same thing as a 2600+, its just hard coded a different mulit. Save the cash, get a 2400+-Mobile, the best RAM you can (muskin 3200 lvl II is the best) and OC that mother!
