Rumors were 1500 are easy on 8+6 pin cards. If you expected anything better than 1400 best case scenario on reference card its setting yourself up for disappointment.
 
I certainly hope I see some more reviews on launch day of reference designs hitting 1400mhz, so I am not the only outlier.

as always voltage control, and custom cards will increase the oc abilities.

I expect around a 100 from reference. Looks like AMD won't let you mess around too much with them. I think its all by design. They could have easily put a 8 pin connector but they chose not to probably to keep AIBs happy.

they could have put a 8 pin connector on, but I have no idea if It would actually help. Power consumption for me is under 115 watts. Biggest thing holding back overclocks right now is voltage control, which is currently locked. Board power being limited to 150 will hold back the higher overclocks most likely but no idea until I can do power consumption numbers with voltage control to see how much headroom there actually is.

Also while the specs are limited to 150watt, the 6 pin connector can provide more than its rated 75 watts. Kinda like my 290x which when overclocked can pull north of 400 watts abiet from 1-6pin and 1-8pin.

wait you have the card? lol. So all these reports we are seeing is with stock voltage?

so my dream of puting a aio water cooler and overclocking the life out of it is not dead?
 
Two 6 pins or one 8 pin + AIB coolers (like a Strix) = profit.

i dont think power conectors matter all that much im probrably pulling upwards of 200 watts out of my overclocked s7000 with no issue

Do you have older drivers or something? Cuz all these leaks haven't mentioned voltage being locked or they are just only mentioning one side of the story?

Ever notice how the heavy OCing AIB's have say an 8 pin and a 6 pin??

There must be a reason for that.

Then again, my 960 Strix runs off a single 6 pin and with the power limit set to 110% (and no manual voltage fiddling), I've achieved the OC's in my sig..

meh. you can pass 200 watts thrpugh a 6 pin and the wires for a 6 pin. if you mod the vbios abit so the card dosnt try to throttle its really not a issue to only have one plug.

agreed. Reference cards are mostly bios limited than anything for to stay within certain power envelope.

correct, AMD has the TDP listed at 150w. The card can use more power if you put the voltage to it, but conveniently they don't really allow enough voltage to do that.
 
i would lover a non ref one but i need a card relitivly soon my s7000 isnt cutting it on all games any more. ill eaith try to buy a used 980 ti (if prices wernt so insane) or grab a ref 480 and see what i can do with it.
