As the title states, this would be a great feature, and put an end to email notifications for newer vista users or otherwise rss feed likers. I wouldn't have suggested it, but I'm trying to force myself to get used to vista, and this would be nice.

Why would we put a time limit on posting and then turn around and activate the quick reply feature? That makes little sense.....on a forum of this size, spam is a real problem. We can't stop it completely, but we can slow it down enough to catch it after 3 or so posts and ban the spammer.

The front page articles are in RSS feed, the forums are not and will most likely remain that way. The point of having a forum is to have members visit, not just cull a few threads to RSS and not log onto the forum.

This has been discussed many times and it will never happen. The admins are adamant about no quick reply to keep spam manageable.

I actually posted a thread with pretty much the same title a few months back here and the response that no such technology exists, and the ones that did kinda sorta exist were very straining on the servers and annoying and not what we were looking for.

Wow, I didn't expect to get such harsh criticisms over these ideas, but I'm sure you've put more thought into it than I have. As for the RSS feed, I figure it'd just be a good idea for those with vista and the sidebar. It's not really so that we'd frequent the forums any less. It's just more convenient than getting those email notification of updates. And to be honest, it wouldn't make me visit the website any less. I'd just have a more convenient heads up to new updates than checking my email all the time.

As for the quick reply, it should still be able to use the post timer with it. Forums like XS have it at the bottom, and still have the timer. It's just a little bit more convenient than having to click post reply, and could maybe save some bandwidth too, although I'm sure that's not a big problem for you guys.

Either way, thanks for taking the time to read this I guess

question: i wonder if different people have different views about a what a quick reply feature is.
ive seen both where its an actual quick reply literally.
but then ive seen others where a little box, other than a page load, pops up, and you type your post in, and those that i have seen have the option of a timer.

but while this thread is on a similar subject, i really wish there was a button or an option to remove all subscribed threads.
or an rss feed might be nice if it is cheap usage-wise, but i dont think i need an rss feed to determine if someone responded to my few post. though being quoted would probably get my attention more.

Well, I suppose the RSS feed would also alleviate some bandwidth requirements since pushing some xml would be lighter than the usercp page i usually goto every morning to see what updates were done.

Sorry to rebump this, but I had an idea as well.

I know that it was mentioned that rss feeds for subscribed threads may "reduce visits" to the site. How about rss feeds for individual subforums? Also, if the concern is ad revenue, how about having ad's in the rss feed as well. That might even prompt some more people to opt to pay to get ad-free rss feeds.

Not really an imminent issue for me since I'm not using vista anymore, but just figure it's a decent idea

At least there isn't a picture text thing every time we wanna post.

God I hate that stuff.....turned it off on search as well just because it is a pain in the ass to me when using it at other sites.

Given the recent success of our search engine, I have turned off the search time limit as well. We will see what happens. :)

As for RSS feeds, sorry, that is not going to happen. If you want to be part of our forums or use them, you will have to visit our pages.
