I just bough a WD20EARS, the harddrive however has wierd spikes at beginning as in image below.

Also the average read speed is 82.4mb/s which I believe is a bit low considering my 204ui gives 103mb/s and around that so should the EARS aswell..

Time to RMA the disk?

The harddrive is basicaly brand new.

in health tab in hdtune I get the following:

Healt status: Warning
current worst threshold data status
(C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count 200 200 0 1 warning

i think smart the error is caused by a loose sata cable, try another one if you have it handy, and about the bechmark, load a command prompt with admin rights, and type "net stop wsearch" without the quotes and benchmark it again, post results.

To me this problem looks like a bad SATA card.

(C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count 200 200 0 1 warning

This is telling you that there was a single bad packet transferred between the SATA port and drive. I would worry about this if you had a few thousand but 1 does not bother me.

my 2tb F4 works without problem.

I plugged the EARS straight on to motherboard, at beginning 110mb/s then damaged blocks and 25mb/s:

Is the harddrive defective, RMA it?

Its not perfect. However its not terribly bad..

If you can do a full format on the drive (erasing all data) then redo the same hd tune screens you have posted.

AT work I have seen a few WDC drives that came with current pending sectors from the factory but after a full format all was well.

If you can, I'd RMA it. No sense hanging on to a drive that may be going bad - especially if it is new. I used to be sanguine about drive errors, then lost a crap ton of data in a crash and have been very conservative since then.
