Okay...this is taking forever...I built a new pc and the first day I use it I have to RMA the video card (was hoping putting in new system would fix it and the older one was just the problem). I am reasonbly sure it was a flawed video card...blue and yellow spots in games and 2d applications...which ATI refers me they will probably just replace.

It was a Radeon 9800 PRO 128. Bought it retail in December 03...it may be as old as Oct 03. Which, I think, is too old to do that flash trick to an XT.

But do you think there is a chance, if they replace it, I will get a newer chipset that will be able to be OC'ed to an XT? Would certinately make me feel better about all this waiting.

There is always the chance you get a newer core, but you also have a chance of just getting a replacement with the same core.
You never know.
But if you are getting artifacts then I would RMA it.
I RMA'd a 9700pro with them once and it only took about 1-1.5 weeks to get my replacement.

Only thing I wish I had done was RMA it earlier....now all my new comp stuff is becoming outdated and I haven't even used it!!!
 
Also...lets say I just get my Radeon 9800 Pro back...I'm confused about overclocking...does it void warranty always? If I flash it to XT and i have a problem...am I out of luck?

And how well should it work with the following

Amd Athlon 64 3000+
512 Kingston
Sb Live 5.1
Abit K8V Pro
and so on...

I checked the web site but they only had an AMD 64 paired with a 6800.
If anyone has this system or something similiar, let me know.
 
A: why would you flash it to XT? Unless it's a pro on an XT pc board (ie: it IS an XT).

B: You need to flash back to the original bios before RMA'ing it, otherwise...like yeah...they be po'd, and have a reason to invalidate your warranty and charge you for repairs instead.
 
I didn't do anything to it at all...no overclocking or anything. Just aircleaned some of the dust and send it off to them.

Aren't some of the 9800 Pro boards (even 128 mgs) have the same core as an XT, the only differences is the BIOS? I should check, but if they have the 360 core I should be able to...that's label on the board right?

Many of the 9800 Pros have the R360 core, which when flashed appropriately gain an advantage with shaders. Some also even have the 9800XT PCB, which enables temperature monitoring. You can check the former by using something like RivaTuner (it'll say R360 or R350), and you can tell the PCB just by looking at it. Rojak's Pot has a full article on identifying and modding 9800 Pros, including the 128 MB versions.
 
Just got my RMA back from ATI, 9800 Pro 128. It looks new

I checked rojak's pot, but mine looks like 3 of them, how do I identify the exact one? There are small squares on the board that say HYNIX, does that necessarily mean it is the HYNIX memory? Where can I find the CORE number?
