Reusing Laptop LCD screen question

I've looked at the FAQ about reusing LCD's and the process seems to require a controller for the LCD to intervace with VGA or DVI. My question is, aren't these things in the laptop? Doesn't the laptop come with some sort of controller and if not how does it work in the first place, some sort of direct link?

Really though you can answer my question simply by saying that even if I have the entire laptop, I absolutely must get a controller if I want to reuse the LCD. I expect that to be the case, but I wanted to be sure.

The short of it is that the whole process is doable, but its complicated. I think the outputs from the laptop video card are not a standard VGA or DVI style output. I'm no expert, so i could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure its not all kosher.
 
Where can I find the FAQ about this? I clicked on the FAQ link in the menu and cant find anything.
 
LeChuck, the unfortunate answer is that most laptops use a proprietary connection from both the video card to the controller and from the controller to the screen, and the majority of the time, the controller is built directly on top of the video card, which is itself built directly onto the laptop's main system board. Therefore, seperating any of the parts from each other requires knowledge of how they interact, etc, which is rarely available, and usually only to those who either designed the blasted pieces or those who assembleand build them, all of whom are almost always under non-disclosure agreements form their respective employers.... :(
