I got an old Northwood P4 2ghz socket 478 400mhz fsb cpu (at least i think it is has 400mhz bus speed)

my mobo for this cpu is giving alot of problems agp slot died which killed my 6600gt amoungst other things and i have been looking for a replacement mobo. found this on new egg and was wonder what u guys think of it. Link
its a 400mhz socket socket 478 mobo with pci-e

i can get a free used qpack from a bud so i'll be using that, looking to use a enermax liberty 500 watt psu and a zalman 7000 heatsink. will be using parts from old pc to fill in the gaps

don't wanna spend to much money behind this build just want to get stable rig till i get my new rig.

your thaughts ?
 
Do you really need a 500W PSU for that?

Also, I found from experience that trying to take some older components and building a new system around them sometimes ends up costing almost as much as if you had started from scratch. Take my SFF machine.... I wanted to build something around the PC3200 memory, Radeon 8500, and 80GB HD I had laying around. Guess what.... all that was replaced after a few months, and this machine is still a lot slower than it could have been for about the same, if not a little more.

Just something to think about
 
retro, rofl, the box in my sig is retro. hehe, anywho, if your really stuck on that board, go ahead but i wouldn't got off of 3 reviews, even if they're all 5 eggs. if you want it to be "retro" why dont you get a better board with an agp slot and find a radeon 8500 to put in it.

i had this board a while back for a family pc for mom and the brother along with a celeron 2.4 ghz cpu on it (rofl, i know it sucked and sucks even more now)

I clicked on this thread hoping to see a 200MHz or slower computer made into something cool. P4 != Retro. Fail.
 
all i need is a cool old graphics card in my retro rig and im set. any1 wanna donate.
