Is there any difference between these and the ones that follow the reference board? What I mean is, do they come with better chips? Im specifically talking about the Radeon 4890. I want to oc it to 1 ghz and was wonder if I should shoot for the sapphire oc version that's @ 901 Mhz.

The only thing you get from a retail Oc'd card is a guaranteed OC that is already on the card. Anything above that and it doesn't matter what card you have as its all luck from there.

Unless you get an HIS card or something with custom cooling you will not get better OC results from a pre-OC'd card over a refference card and visa-versa. Its all about luck of the draw.

That's not quite true. Of course you are garanteed the OC but you will most likely have better luck oc'ing because the retail oc'd cards have cherry picked parts.
