Resolutions for widescreen?

Just wondering if anybody could help me out with this, i've got a widescreen projector and want to play my games on it, but I can't seem to find a widescreen resolution. Is there a program or something that can help with this? Or what do I need to do?
 
What resolution is your projector, and what game(s) are you trying to play? Windows itself usually needs to recognize the monitor in order for it to give you the correct resolution choices.
 
I'm using a Mitsubishi xd350u projector, which is native 1024x768. I'm trying to run doom3. I have a wide screen and i dont want to waste any of it. I can run in 4:3 mode, i just don't want to, you know?
 
1024x768 isn't widescreen... so, if you want widescreen the projector would have to be the one to stretch the 1024 horizontally to make it appear as if it were.

Edit:
Your projector lists resolution up to 1280x1024, even though not native. It also lists support for 720p and 1080i, though scaled they both may be. If your screen is wide, and you want to use all of it instead of being limited to the native 4:3, you would have to set the projector to wide mode (I assume it has such features?). The problem is that the PC can only use a supported resolution to the projector, and as such, you will be using a 4:3 computer resolution, stretched. In games this will necessitate changing the FOV so that you don't have a distorted image.

Disclaimer: I haven't used a projector hooked up to a PC so I may be completely off somewhere here. Just trying to help...
