Resolution (and other) options

I'm configuring a Dell E1705 laptop right now and I'm a little stuck on what to choose for the resolution. I can either choose the standard 1440x900 or an incredible 1920x1200 17" for a $150 premium.

I already own a Dell 2007fwp 20" widescreen monitor which is 1650x1080 and I feel that it is sharp enough for me so I was worrying a significantly higher resolution on a significantly smaller screen may cause things to appear to be too small.

Maybe I'm wrong as a laptop screen is a lot closer to my eyes than a normal monitor.

Also, the laptop comes with Intel Graphics 950 as a standard option for video but I know its not suitable for even light duty gaming. The ATI Mobility Radeon 1400x is $50 more and the Nvidia Geforce Go 7900GS is $300 more. I'm planning to go for the 7900GS unless someone can convince me otherwise.

I know the 7900GS would completely slaughter the other options, but I was wondering how great an impact would it have on battery life.

Thanks,

Jason R

No idea about the 7900GS, but for the LCD config question if possible (which does kinda belong in here) , Try to take a look at a 17" 1900 x 1200 monitor before you make a decision. In such matters it's really a case of one man's meat being another man's poison. What some people find really great might be too small for you - though you do have options of having jumbo text and icons which I find sorta defeats the purpose. Personall, I think 1440 x 900 is a nice resolution for 17". 1920 x 1200 suits a 24", which looks just right to me. Any smaller screen size would make things tiny. Might also want to check out 1680 x 1050 if it's available. Then again, $150 isn't all that much more to be shelling out to get a *lot* more pixels.

Anyhow, do take a look if you can. Alternatively, get some kind soul here who has a 1900 x 1200 17 incher to take photos of it in action =)
