My V7+ fan controller died on me (resistor broke in half somehow :confused: )

Which means my fan is at 6000RPM and not very quiet say the least, so I was wondering if I can make my own little controller?

It dosnt have to variable, so could I just put on a resistor on the 12v??

I just want to slow it down to like 3000rpm or so

I have a few different types of resistors with varying ohmerage

470ohm, 33ohm, 1K, 2.2k,3.3k, 3.9k etc

So can I do this? anyone else done this?
 
just replace the resistor that broke. match the color stripes to ohm amount.
 
well its 0.55 amp

the smallest I have is 33ohm and I dont know the wattage but I doubt it would be anymore that 1watt

Rp=1/R + 1/R

the fan is 49cfm and 47db at 6000rmp (12v)

so I was looking to get it arounf 4000rpm so around 8-9V should be ok

R = 4 / 0.55 = 7.2

Power = V * I = 4 *0.55 (max) = 2.2W

I dont see I can do it with the wattages involved
 
Time for a new resistor or a new fan controller. Don't try any resistors that can't take the power dissipation. Not only will the resistor function improperly, but it also would put your computer in danger of fire.
