Resident Evil 7 announced

I am optimistic about this game. I liked RE4 and only like RE5 for the coop but haven't even touched any game past that. All action based POS games. This, now this looks great.

Went back to play RE4. While it's fun, it's as shooting based and linear as I remember. I prefer the style of RE 1 and 2 better.

I remember playing the original RE on the Playstation, when it was just called the Playstation, back in '95 or '96 while I was stationed in Japan. Back then, the game creeped us all out, and it was fun, playing in a dark room. Now, I'm just so cynical and jaded.

RE4 is amazing and I was so let down by RE6. RE6 completely pissed me off from start to end. What a terrible piece of shit. It's corny and jumped the shark when that Tyrant thing was hanging from the chopper and jumping between choppers. And you're flying a jet to take down a some zombies on a oil tanker as Chris Redfield. Revelations 2 is a solid game that definitely gave me the willies with those invisible bugs on Barry's campaign. RE7 looks drastically different just like how RE4 changed from the original formula, so I'll reserve my judgement until I actually play it.

Gabriel2, I agree, visual and control interruptions are a big problem with the series. It seems to me that Japanese devs put up with these anachronistic glitches much longer than western devs would. Interruptions are minimized in RER2, that's one of the reasons I love it, but there's still a quick cut to black when you open doors. Capcom needs to either stop including this, if it's a design choice, or upgrade to a real engine, if it's a technical issue.

I think the biggest problem with RER2 was the girl's heat vision or whatever you call it. You could just play that whole part of the game as the girl and see all the monsters through walls, switching to Barry to shoot them. The invisible monsters were scary but giving the girl heat vision wasn't worth it just to make that small part of the game work. Claire's campaign was waaay more tense as a result, like night and day.

They probably should've just given her the heat vision for invisible monsters only, and then limited her to dialogue warnings now and then for visible monsters. That would have worked. For single player, anyway. She was probably already bad enough in coop but I don't care about multiplayer.

My favorites are still the GameCube versions of Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero. Tanks controls, great graphics, great story and fun and entertaining puzzles. I believe it was one of the first games to use actual real life footage and stick it into the game. I remember one part in particular in the first game where you went outside behind the mansion and there was muddy path with water running down it and it was just a looping video. Because of the tank controls you only saw one perspective of it so it worked. Very clever for the time.

I hate having to hide from scary things. Graphics look good, though. I've not been paying attention, is this a complete branch off of the original story or will this somehow tie into the original story (Umbrella and friends)?

What I think after five hours of Resident Evil 7...

taking in the game's early stages and meeting some of its major antagonists and honestly, it's the most Resident Evil game I've played in a long time...it's easy to fixate on the first-person perspective, on the virtual reality and on the lack of recognizable characters, but for all that, Resident Evil 7 still feels like a true old-school title...it feels like survival horror...It might look different on the surface, but everything that made classic Resident Evil so great, for me, is present in Resident Evil 7 - uniquely weird puzzles, a foreboding atmosphere, a memorable locale and genuinely intimidating enemies...it isn't action horror or horror entertainment - it's real, classic survival horror...

Resident Evil 7 demo launches on PC this month...

Sounds like everything that’s been released on PS4 so far (both the Beginning Hour and Midnight portions of the demo) will be combined into one PC mega-demo on December 19th...

Nice, looking forward to trying this out. Thanks for the heads up.

The demo will definitely help me decide if I'll purchase it. I received a Steam gift card for my birthday and I'd like to use it on something expensive ($60, not on sale); if the demo runs good on my computer then I'll likely purchase. Even though RE7 looks like it has nothing to do with previous games, I really hope they work something in; I'm trying to finish Revelations 2 and it has some interesting story pieces (Wesker cloned a female version of himself!?). Rev 2 takes place before RE6, which I've played but have all but forgotten about.

Resident Evil 7 PC graphics options detailed

It’s pretty apparent Capcom is taking the PC version of Resident Evil 7 seriously...it’ll support arbitrary resolutions, also supports 144hz monitors, has an uncapped frame-rate (plus options to lock at 30 and 60), a way to extend the FOV, and offers a whole load of other tweaks for textures, shadow quality and more...

pretty impressive!

I wonder if HDR is connected to the bt.709 spec or if that was just them misspeaking.
