Help! I have been trying cool my system, and initially I was using the CoreCenter and making use of Cool N Quiet. I did not turn the option on in my bios, as I did not want my processor speed changed. So by doing it in CoreCenter it auto adjusted my fans based on temp. Later, I was told that wasn't a great tool, and was recommended SpeedFan. After tweaking it, I was able to have it adjust my speeds accordingly. Here is how it was setup:
CPU temp desired: 43 warning: 53
NB temp desired: 41 warning: 50
SYS temp desired: 41 warning: 50
Hard Drive - I wan't sure on this one, but mine is supported. Currently 40 desire, 50 warn.
I have my processor drop down to 2400 RPM (40%) at idle, and max at 100% (5600 RPM).
I have my northbridge drop to 5625 RPM (85%), because any lower and the speed goes beserk. It jumps to like 17000. It runs 6250 RPM at full speed.
Keep in my mind, at the time my CPU was idling at 46c and SYS at 41c. This is at stock speeds with 3 case fans (2 front, 1 rear). The rear fan is the only monitored one, and it runs at a steady 1000 RPM. I was also told to turn on SmartFan in the bios, and set it to 50c. I figured SmartFan did that anyway, so I didn't do it. Long story short, I set the Speedfan to autostart on boot and let it monitor.
I started noticing it didn't always detect my CPU and rear fan speeds, and reported it at 0. I was nervous it might turn off the fan! At one point I forgot to turn off SpeedFan before rebooting, and now I can't get back to 5000 RPM! The program is supposed to reset fan speed to full on close, but I didn't and now it only hits 4400 at max. I want to be safe and have that extra power if needed. But no matter what I do, I can't restore it. I tried uninstalling, or not having it run on startup, but the system still runs it slower. I even used CoreCenter to user settings and cranked up the speed to max with no luck. What can I do?
