A power supply on a pc of mine was driving me crazy due to the blowdrier-like sound the fan was producing, so I decided to do something about it. First I cut the two power wires (a 12v and a ground) that connected the fan to the PSU itself and connected them to a 3 pin molex that I plugged to my mobo so that the fans speed could be controlled by the FanSpeed app. So far so good, untill I tried to turn the system on. Nothing. Apparently the PSU will not operate if its fan power connectors are disconnected, so I bought a couple of cold cathodes that I thought should easily suck up 12vs and connected it to the leads in order to get it to operate again. Unfortunately a friend came over when I was doing all this and broke one of the cathodes :mad:, but I hooked it all up anyways, only to have the PSU (again) not work. So my question is, what the hell did I do wrong?

The only things I can think of that could be messing the PSU up is that the cathodes could be wired in a series circuit (meaning that if one goes out the circuit breaks), or that the wires I spliced together are not connected well since I tied them together and wrapped them in electrical tape instead of soldering them like a good boy.

If anyone could help it would be appreciated, since I'm too stupid to mod. :confused:
