I want to reroute the open/close button for this slimline drive (link
Anybody know if it is possible?

With reroute I mean connect up some wires and have a momentary switch somewhere else to replicate the open/close button's functionality. Hope this makes sence!
 
I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. It already has an open/close button, doesn't it? Just connect another button in parallel to the existing button.
 
I'm planning on doing the same thing. Unscrew the casing of the drive and look for the 2 solder points on the PCB that the button is attached to. Solder wire to those points with a switch and it should work perfectly.
 
definitely possible. i don't know how simple it will be on that slimline drive, but it is definitely possible.
 
If the drive casing can be opened and the wires traced on the PCB, it should be real easy. But those are two big IF's that would make it a lot easier to spend the money when they are eliminated!
 
I doubt anyone can give you promises unless they've opened that drive itself. But assuming the casing comes off, which almost all drives do... theres no reason it should be hard to solder to the pcb. Your odd's are good enough to go for it.

I've got the drive, yer first advice was about as right as it can get. Take off the bezel, find the soldering points, desolder, attach longer wires and a new similar button.
