Would it be possible to incorporate a User Reputation system? I think it'd be a great indication of a forum member's competence, courtesy, and knowledge, rather than just going off their forum title.

Yeah something like that. The only other board I knew of that did that was bodybuilding.com. It's a pretty decent system.

We have one here but we have never put it into action.

I see something like this is now implemented on the user pages. How exactly does it work?

I can see where some people might consider it useful, but as this forum has been around ~a decade I'd say it's a bit late in the run to just start one now. Remains to be seen what happens, but as Kyle posted, they've had one but apparently never felt the need to implement it. Makes sense to me...

I hate rep systems. People start whoring for it and it becomes some sort of "social status".

Agreed. I like how this forum keeps status to a minimum (ex: post count isn't shown unless one wanders to the profile pages).

Knowledge > post count/status on the forums IMO. If we implement this sort of system then people will look for people with high ratings and may dismiss good info from newer members/people who post less.

I agree. In forums with a rep system I'm constantly seeing signatures with "like my answer, give me some rep lovin" which really gets old. Plus several have very odd systems, where you have to "spread around the rep points" instead of just giving it to people when you run into good information. I know they do that so you can't bump someone up to high and abuse the system, but it gets where it's hard to award reputation when you want to at times.

I'm sure its due to maturity in regards to title & length of time with [H]. Some will flaunt it & use it as leverage but most here seem not to make it a point to bully. That's why I can appreciate [H] (I do admit that I've had my times of not being in the best moods & striking a rift with some here) & see a mature community overall (excluding any that are intentionally immature). Knowledge & respect for those who show it through wisdom are what make this community strong.

I looked at this over the last day, and I don't think this is for us.
