Replacing reference 6870 reference cooling, with...?

Any suggestions on a good air cooled solution to replace the reference cooling/jet engine on the 6870?

arctic cooling accellero twin turbo pro, don't forget the heatsink kit. With the fan set in MSI afterburner to ramp up to 60% @ 60c, my temps are around 61-64c. The stock cooler ran 28-35C hotter with annoying fan noise.
 
Funny you ask this. I just got done replacing the coolers on both of mine. I'm running 2 in SLI and I was getting temperatures in excess of 90C. My original plan was two Twin Turbo Pro's but no room since my sound card uses the bottom PCIe slot.

In short, Iwin Turbo Pro on the top card and a Setsugen 2 on the bottom. Both do a very good job. The TT Pro is without a doubt the better choice if space is not a concern. If space is a concern (IE. You can't afford 3 slots), the Setsugen 2 does a fairly good job. Just be aware that if you go with the Twin Turbo Pro, you either will need the VR001 kit for the VRM sinks, or you will have to cut some of the included sinks to fit, as none of the default ones will in their default state.
 
Having used an Arctic cooler, and read the reviews, I'd be very careful, the design of Arctic cooling's VGA products leaves a lot to be desired and can very easily damage stuff. You could perhaps consider a Thermalright Spitfire. Not sure if the MK-13 fits the 6870 or not.
 
I'm using Accelero XTREME 4870X2 and it worked very well in my tower case. However, if you have a small case say for mATX boards, you might run into issues cooling the CPU as it will just be sucking in the very hot air coming out of your GPU. I can tell you that the stock HS/fan for i3 2100 does not cut it in my Lian Li V354 and that is with both drive cages off. Using HWMonitor, temp for my CPU runs in the high 60Cs when playing games. I'm thinking of taking the Accelero off and putting the original back on so it will exhaust out the case because the case doesn't have enough room for even a small tower HS.

You only have problems if you do not take your time to install the cooler right and do not buy the heat sink kit if you need it. Once again, going from a reference cooler on my 6870, to using the twin turbo pro, I dropped my temps 26-28c. How is a 28c drop in temp, along with a cooler that now makes no noise, leave a lot to be desired? Add on top of that the $30 price (plus heat sink kit) and I think there is not a better cooler out there for the 6870.
 
It's nothing to do with the performance, it's just very poor design of the attachment process. The HD4870X2 and HD5970 coolers of theirs were globally panned for destroying more cards than they successfully attached to. Likewise the S1 rev. 2 sometimes cracked dies even if you followed the instructions to the letter. It's a shame because the performance is excellent, I quite agree, but not worth it if it's a case of going through 3 or 4 destroyed cards before you get one that works.
