so right now i'm using these Logitech Z-2200 2.1 speakers which are used mainly for mp3 listening. most of the time i listen to mp3 encoded at 192kbps or 320kbps in some cases and i noticed that an audio cd sounds exactly the same than the mp3 file in these speakers (haven't tried lower than 192kbps). btw, i'm using a SoundBlaster Audigy 4 card.
i thought about forgetting about my mp3 collection and even start to buy the original cd's probably because i would get better sound "quality" with a good set of floorstanding speakers/amp/cd player, etc.
browsing through this forum i've seen lots of different computer audio setups and i was starting to wonder if i should stay with mp3 and get better speakers or whatever.
so what would be your recommendation? i thought about getting some M-Audio card such as the Audiophile 192 (X-Fi is not supported in Linux's ALSA) and well.. the speakers should be 2.0 and apparently it seems they should be studio monitors so that's where i think i would have the problem since those aren't meant for playing lossy files such as mp3 if i'm not wrong.. and would probably sound not so good. should i also need a separate amplifier i guess? i actually don't know what "route" would be cheaper since i'd also need to have this computer itself of course plus the amplifier box, etc etc.
thanks.
