Replacing a shuttle

So I've got my Q6600 in my shuttle, and while the PPD boost over the E2180 is nice (from ~800 with a single Win SMP to ~3000 with dual linux VM), it does not OC. At all. Going from 266 FSB to 270 and it won't boot. This is due (among other things) to not being able to modify the

So my goal here is to replace the Shuttle with something that can OC to at least 3.0ghtz, preferably 3.2. At the same time I would like it to be small, quiet, and not to expensive. It will be air cooled, so the case matters (a lot actually).

I saw this mITX board on the SFF forum and was intrigued:

Does anyone know how well this chipset can OC? A low watt 80+ PSU and netbooting would make this board pretty much rock.

On the slightly larger side of things we have the Asus P5E-VM (no HDMI) which has a proven OC track record. Going with the mATX would also allow me to add a GPU at some point.

That leaves cooling, and case (the girlfriend will kill me if I go with naked boxen). I know that given enough intake air flow the S1283 keeps a Q6600@3.2 plenty cool. The big question I have is on the case... Spending a crap load of cash on the case seems pretty silly. I just need something "plain" that either has good intake in front of the CPU, or has three 5.25 bays so it can take a Scythe Kama bay fan (or similar).

Any and all advice is very much welcome.

I have that asus version which gets me only to 3.1Ghz. Keep in eye out you can pick up cases add a fan or two and for under $30 you have a great folding case. Add in a $50 Abit IP35-E and your ready to OC to 3.2-3.6Ghz easy.

Both my shuttles SP35P2s OC to 3GHz at stock voltage.
I pad modded the CPU instead of trying to OC in BIOS and manually set the memory to 333FSB. (There were problems with memory when I let it set automagically)
 
I have the SG31G2, the P35 got RMA'ed (wouldn't boot, no mobo light when PSU connected). The SG31G2 is known to be a crappy OC box. It wasn't a problem when I had the E2180 in it, cause I could get it to 2.5 (10x250). The issue is the memory. There is (just above) zero control of it. You can set it to DDR2/667 or DDR2/800, and bump up the voltage, but that's it. It controls the multiplier and won't let you change the FSB (except as noted above). With the E2180 I set the ram to DD2/667 and let it do it's thing. It actually ended up running at a ratio of 3:5 (I believe... memory could be off a little) with the memory running around 378.

Sunin, I appreciate the suggestion, but there is no fun in that. Getting something like that mITX board and having it push a Q6600 even as low as 3.0ghtz would be fun. With the right case and PSU (maybe an external PSU since it has onboard video) it would be a cheap tiny PPD monster.

That is the number 2 reason why I do this, it lets me feed my PC building addiction without feeling like the hardware is going to complete waste. After building my first Q6600 machine I actually had it turned off for like 3 months because I didn't have anything for it do. Turned it back on to play with OSX (love it, but not enough to "switch"), and got back into folding shortly there after.

I was hoping to get the Shuttle to run the Q6600 at least to 2.7ghtz, but that failed, so now I'm looking to build something with a similar size/noise factor of the Shuttle (preferably better on the noise side) that can actually OC.

I think I'm gonna post the Zotac on the mobo forum and see if anyone there knows how well that chipset will OC.

More advice needed though, help me feed my addiction :)

but ya i like relic's suggestion, if it supports the 333fsb do the pad mount modification
