I was working on a friends machine - the acer aspire l3600. This is the first time I have dealt with a small form factor PC and I yanked out the ribbon of the dvd player assuming it was like sata, ide connection.

The ribbon requires to be placed in and a plastic trap placed over it to secure it. I broke the plastic trap and require a new connection. The ribbon connects to this piece and interfaces with the dvd writer

Many Thanks

it looks like, um, a husky odd CVT. the kind that is made in China...

thanks for your insightful thoughts, i bet your the talk of the party anywhere you go. Try typing in husky odd cvt to google. This is the number one link and the rest aint got nothin to do with this. I obviously tried typing in that before as well as the serial numbers, nothin..........

is the connection part on the mobo proprietary? If its not and there is an available ide port you can get a slim ide adapter (assuming you have a slim drive). I will also assume you already tried pinging ACER to see if they sell the part. Otherwise sounds like it is time for some ghetto mod.

thank you very much. I had no idea what the part was called. They have them in the shop across the road. I tried getting in touch with Acer, they were closed for bank holidays over here and their support seems very minimal anyhows.

Cheers though, I can get it sorted now.

I dont know if it is the right piece. I contacted ACER technical support - talked to some women who told me i would have to send it in for repair. No Chance. I will buy one and see if it fits. Never modded anything before but I would rather try that than send it off for repair and get ripped off

Did you find your small ide-cable for DVD-player/recorder in ACER pc. I'm looking for a cable too.

I was only hoping that he still has been getting emails and will reply. There is no harm in trying but thanks for the update. I did notice the date.
