I have an external western digital drive that I would like to remove from the enclosure and include it into my Windows Home Server box. Is this possible? Lol - I would love to have 1 less item hooked up via usb to my main PC.

Used to be possible and sometimes cheaper than an internal drive but I read somewhere on here that they've gotten smat now and remove the sata connectors from the PCB.
Open it up to check if you don't care about warranty.

It is dependent on the external hard drive model. Do some research and see if your model has a regular SATA drive inside, if it does you're good to go as long as you are willing to risk voiding your warranty.

I was able to open up my Seagate Backup Plus 4TB USB 3.0 Desktop Drive and get it out. Unfortunately I broke a few of the clips so if I wanted to RMA they might not honor it since it was clearly opened before.
