Refurb NEC LCD2470WNX -- How do I test for full functionality?

I just received two refurbished LCD2470WNX monitors directly from NEC after reading about their refurb sale in the thread Kinda warm, NEC Display is selling some refurb for cheap. I would post this question in that thread but I have <50 posts so I can't post in Hot Deals.

The two displays arrived yesterday, but unfortunately the packing materials were of poor quality and came loose during shipping, so the displays were jostled around quite a bit. One box even had two small holes in it which were punched out from the inside by the corner of one monitor.

I plugged them in last night with the supplied VGA cable and they both appear to work so far. Can anyone tell me how to test the monitors to make sure that they are fully functional? I'm going to buy a DVI cable today to test the DVI ports. But I don't know how to check for things like backlight problems, or any other problems that might be caused by rough shipping. Any tips or pointers about how to test the monitors would be very much appreciated, as I am totally new at this..

I'm also wondering -- is there potential for any kind of internal damage due to the rough shipping that may cause problems with the monitors in the future? The refurb warranty is only 90 days.

you can grab an extended warranty from squaretrade.com
I have used them and they are great. Refunded money when product went bad.

Thanks wagsrules, I didn't know about that. I'll check it out.

Regarding my two monitors, one is definitely damaged. It will be going back to NEC. The output is noticeably asymmetric. This picture doesn't do it justice, but here it is anyway: Monitor #1 output. I haven't found any obvious flaws with the second monitor (Monitor #2 output) but I am still looking... If anyone has suggestions for other tests I should run, please let me know!
