do i need to reformat when i buy a new processor? (quadcore to sixcore?)

You shouldn't. On your first boot with a different type of CPU Windows 7 detects it, makes changes, and asks you to reboot.

You should be fine. I was able to upgrade from a P35 chipset to P67 without a reformat, thanks to Windows 7 coming with generic Intel SATA drivers. All I had to do was install the drivers that came with the board and reactivate Windows.

Your processor swap should be a piece of cake.

nope shouldn't have any issues, only time windows really freaks out is when switching between an Intel and AMD and Intel/AMD and a nvidia motherboard. though 9 times out of 10 you can usually just delete the chipset drivers then shut the computer down, make your changes and boot back into windows after.
