Redundant Power Supply??

One half of the psu dies, the other keeps your computer going.
All my servers have redundant power.

Yar...it is meant for servers. If one powersupply fails, the other powersupply takes the load (a backup powersupply, if you will).

Yup. In mission critical servers redundancy is everything - raid 5 (or 1 atleast) redundant power supplies, memory, fans, as much as possible.

I personally like the ones with multipule AC inputs, so you can plug the server (which is oviously mission critical) into 2 seperate circuts incase one dies. I think the I-Star 500x500 newegg carries does that.

One of our dell servers at school has 3 ac inputs, and all the PSU's look like standard ATX

But they have handles in the back because they are hot-swappable. They aren't as tall, usually, about 3/4 the height of a regular ATX psu.

IMHO - unless redundant PSU's are hot swappable....they aren't worth the effort. With hot swaps, when one dies, not only will your machine keep running, but you can remove and replace the defective supply without shutting the machine down. I can just imagine;

"IT support to users - we have to take the server down to swap out the redundant power supplies"

....dumb.
