Looking into buying the Synology 411 and been researching 3TB drives. I see decent reviews on Newegg for

3TB HITACHI Deskstar 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 and the
3TB Seagate Barracuda XT ST33000651AS 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5

Looking for a quiet/low power hard drive, however, the Western Digital Green Drives didn't receive very many favorable reviews on Newegg.

Any experience on the 2 above or recommendations on a 3TB drive for the 411?

I've got the WD green and the Hitachi. Can't say anything bad about either of them, they are both super quiet and run nice & cool, though they're definitely for storage purposes, putting files on them and leaving them there/streaming etc and they are good, if you plan to do lots of or any kind of editing get the Seagates, those 3TB XT drives are beasts. Here's a couple HDtune's. The WD have much better access times. Also don't mind the temps, the WD's are on all the time while the Hitachi's were fresh powered up.

Hi rive22, thanks for the reply. I think I'll use the Synology as a music server, utilizing squeezebox. Also, may use it to stream occasional movie. Having said that, would the Hitachi or the WD Green work? If either those are good, sounds like you would go with the WD Green.
