I'm moving to Mississippi. I feel, with this move that I shall get some new PC parts. My current stuff is in my sig.

I'm looking to get
1. New mobo
2. New RAM
3. Maybe a Barton Mobile

I am looking to overclock, so I need a mobo that is fast and has good OC'ing ability. Thank you.

-DFI Infinity or LanParty B: Best nForce2 boards right now.

-ANY BH-5 ram: [Mushkin Level II ; Hyper KHX3200K2 ; Corsair PC3500C2 ]

- Mobile Barton 2500 or 2600+.

You won't notice a performance increase with a board and prcoessor switch. The only thing I would even think about switching out is the RAM.

of all things, just get another 512 mb of RAM to make 1 gig
the CPU/Mobo Upgrade will not be justified

Why is it better than the Asus A7N8X-Deluxe or the Abit NF7-S?

I have two 256 meg sticks, if I add a 512 meg stick, can I still run dual channel?

Because most people have been getting 250fsb+ easily. Thats out of the box with no vmods.

So, basically I should get some of that PC3500C2(1 gig?) and a new mobo? Would the gains of a higher fsb(i'm at 195 now) really be worth the price?

Yes

Three sticks can fine work in Dual Channel. Fill the two slots closer together with the 256 meg modules and place the 512 module in the remaining slot. That's it.

But note ..that overclockability maybe slightly or largely affected. May not be affected AT ALL.

they hit 250 fsb without any extra cooling on the north bridge. the boards themselves arent better since its all premade components just slapped together, but it comes with better cooling.

Wrong. Even with improved NB cooling most other motherboards won't hit as high as a DFI at stock. Beside, the DFI only has passive cooling, how is that better?

personaly, i would hold off on the new mobo/proc, i would wait till socker 939 and go 64bit, but that is just me - seems like money better spent

because the passive cooling that comes with anything usually sucks, itll have a very small patch of shitty thermal pad. DFI probabily did it right.

and how can it hit higher, THEY USE THE SAME PARTS. the only thing I can think of is DFI has a better BIOS (I dont know what they use) or they have a newer batch of chips so they have a better stepping.

Yeah it's partly the bioses.
The STOCK voltage options don't hurt either ;)

Where in Mississippi are you moving? I live right across the river in Louisiana... if you are anywhere near Monroe (Vicksburg, Jackson, etc.) you should come over for one of our LAN parties some time.

Erm. I was confused by the way Dual Channel mode is done with 3 sticks of ram.

Right now, I use slots 1 and 3. So for dual channel with three, do i put a 256 stick in the 1 and 3 and a 512 stick in the 2?

i may be mistaken, but i believe the dual channel will only apply to two of the sticks (slots 1 and 3), and 2 would opperate on single channel

however, like i said, i may be off here
