Hi,

I been looking around for a good LCD TV, but I am not so sure which MFGs are good and who to stay away from. Also i'm super sure spec wise.

From what I understand, at this point its best to get a 120Hz? ofcourse 1080P is a must.

As far as HDMI inputs, whats the bare minimum one should look for? 3(1x for cable/dish, 1x for blue ray player, 1x for game system)?

Which companies are good these days? I remember in the old days it was Sony Sony Sony, but it seems that's not the case anymore. Are these other brands like Dynex, Vizio, Insiginia, LG, etc. any good?

Should I get the extended warranty?

Basically I am looking to get something in the 40+ inch range, maybe even 40 inch if the deal is good enough and def. looking to stay under $1k, including Tax/S&H, i'm in NY.

If you guys can make some general recommendations that would be awesome, and other things to look for so if some deal pops up I can just buy one and know that I am getting a good product.

Thanks so much.

I've basically come to understand that Sony, Samsung and LG are the tier one LCD manufacturers. The benefit of 120hz is arguable, some people actually prefer to turn off this feature as it makes some films feel unnatural. However being able to do 24/p is a much bigger feature in my mind. This is the ability to play certain blu-ray films at their original intended frame rate. Your blu-ray player must also support it, though most do these days. As far as how many HDMI inputs, I guess it just depends how many devices you have. I wouldn't let "too few" HDMI inputs break the deal on a tv for you though, as you can always get a switcher. Sorry I can't offer advice for a particular model, but maybe that'll give you a place to start. You can easily get a great 40" screen for under $1k though.
