Hi folks. I've been using a buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP "ethernet converter" to extend ethernet via wifi, which worked very well for a year, but it appears to be failing (anyone have one of these?)

Can someone recommend a good, cheap ethernet<->wifi bridge?

I'm particularly interested in one of the open-source firmware mods (one of the linksys router models is popular for that), but don't know much about it.

thx

I'ev got DD-WRT loaded on a WRT54g v3. Works great as a wifi bridge.

As mentioned in the other thread you piped in on. SciAtl Cable modem -> WRT54g v6 ->wireless-> WRT54g v3 w/ DDWRT -> wired ethernet.

East to setup to. Reliable. The v6 dies all the times, we actually have two, and when one, overheats?, and starts acting funny, we swap them. The v3 with DD-WRT reconnects fast and reliably, zero packet loss. It's turned out to be a shiney star of all the linksys typcal turds I deal with a lot.

Whether v3 hardware is that much better than newer stuff, or whever the DD-WRT is it's savior. I dunno.
