Basically want something I can play with but also want to virtualize my Unifi controller for the AP's I manage. It's been a while since I dabbled with Esxi so I'd like to get back into it. Budget around $500 or so. I already have a ESXi 5 license.

I know there are tons of servers in eBay but I'm just looking for guidance. Ideally, I'd like a shallow depth form factor 1u. The rack I'm currently using is made for switches and routers and not full depth rack servers. So fitting something inside that would be a plus but not a deal breaker.

I'm not opposed to building one myself. I'd like it to be fully remote configurable like when using the Dell iDrac cards but I don't know if my budget would allow that.

I don't need anything to run mission critical software.
