Receipt/Paper Scanning?

Has anyone used something like Neat Receipts? I realize any good scanner will cost $300, but how is everyone else doing it? I don't even care about OCR (I'll manually index stuff if I have to), I just get tired of the piece of junk all-in-one I have that never scans properly.

Most people, I believe, are still using the scanner that came with their multifunction printers.

I've personally used two document scanners, as they're called, for work: the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 and the HP Scanjet Professional 3000. They work the same way as the Neat Receipts scanner: you load the document(s) at the top, almost like a fax machine, imaging sensors scan every page in the document, and the bundled software or drivers (depending on the specific scanner) converts the scanned image into something (usually a PDF, but you can oftentimes choose from multiple file formats, depending on the scanner) you could view or edit.

I haven't personally used the Neat Receipts scanner myself, but from my research, it functions the same way. It has a smaller auto document feeder (ADF), but it offers duplex scanning (scans both sides of the page at the same time, but the software arranges them in order), saves documents as PDF, offers some level of optical character recognition (OCR), and exports information obtained from scanning into other programs like Excel or Quicken. You'll obtain the most information about the Neat Receipts scanner from the manufacturer's site.

Maybe my HP AIO will work again after a reinstall of Windows.

Looks like Newegg has a good deal on that ScanJet Professional, though. It's just given the crappiness of HP's software with their AIO I have, I'm very reluctant to go that route.
