rebuilding raid 5

after hectic week so far i am having trouble remembering the requirements of the replacement disk in rebuilding a raid 5 array after disk failure. I keep wanting to believe that it had to have the same # of cylinders?

any help is appreciated.
 
I think the only requirement is that it be the same size or larger.

I have replaced a dead 36GB scsi drive with a 76GB one. (then swapped them all out for 76GB and expanded the array to the empty space)

You should be ok with an identical or larger drive to rebuild the array on. # of cylinder hasn't been a concern in array i've dealt with.
 
one other thing i forgot to ask, drive speed shouldn't matter too much since the controller will manage the speed of the drives anyways?

True, but try to get one at least as fast as the others, as the whole array can be held back by a slower drive.
