Ok, so I just built my first computer. Everything is running and working great, except for the fact that Windows XP Pro reboots when I try to shutdown.

My friend said it was a possibably a mobo/bios problem. I updated with the newest bios from the epox website, but it didnt fix a thing. If anyone could direct me in the possible ways of fixing this, please speak up! Thanks a lot.

System specs:
AMD XP 2500+
EPoX Motherboard 8RDA3I (Rev 3.x)
80GB 7200RPM Seagate Harddrive
512MB Corsair PC3200
Windows XP Pro SP1
 
I figured out my problem. It was my temp PCI GeForce card causing the problems. Here is the solution if anyone comes across the same problem.

This happened to me on my motherboard.

Motherboard
EP-8RDA+ mobo w/ nForce2

Video Card
PNY Geforce4 420 MX PCI video card.

Had the problem that the pc would reboot upon shut down and after disabling the "auto-reboot after crash" I got an error pointing towards the "NV_AGP.SYS" driver.

If you use a PCI video card your system may reboot during shutdown after isntalling the Nforce drivers.

The reason why your system would reboot is due to the setting in Start Up and Recovery having your system to reboot after a crash being enabled.

To disable that you can go to: Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> (It's Settings) -> System Failure -> Have "Automatically Restart" unchecked.

After doing so apply all new settings and try to shut down the system.

You will now have a BSOD giving you an error with "NV_AGP.SYS"

In order to fix this you must roll back to M$'s PCI driver, to do this you must do the following:

Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> System devices -> NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge -> Properties (right-click) -> Driver -> Driver Details (here you should see 2 drivers; nv_agp.SYS and pci.sys). To rollback to the WinXP default driver, clilck OK to close the driver details window, then click Roll Back Driver from the Properties/Driver window. Windows will ask you for confirmation and then it should switch to the pci.sys.


This is also a way to fix the AGP to PCI bridge for some HP Pavilons that have an Nvidia Video Card.
