I recently switched from a Geforce 4 TI 4200 64mb to a Radeon 9600XT 128mb card. After installing the proper drivers and such, I ran 3D Mark 2001 to see the difference. Well, after running it, the score was 11,500. This is like a 500 point increase over the 4200.. so something has to be wrong.

At least I hope something is wrong, I believe it should be higher. I know when the 9600's were new, people were getting much higher scores than this. Anyway I could be overlooking?

It's a Sapphire 9600XT on an AGP8b mobo, 512mb PC3200, 120gb 7200rpm.. rest in sig.

Thanks for any help :)

I went from a ti4200 to a 9700np and didn't notice a huge difference in 3dMark01either, there are a couple of reasons for this.

1. 3dMark01 is mostly CPU/Memory bound

2. For DX8 gaming a 9600xt isn't much faster than a ti4200 , however DX9 is a different story and where the XT really shines compared to the ti4200. If you look at the various reviews on the two cards you will notice that in many DX8 games the ti4200 will actually outperform the 9600XT

I had been considering the 9600XT but after looking at the DX8 performance in several reviews I realized it took a 9700np or better to "beat" a ti4200 in many DX8 games

Wow, that's interesting. Yes, it was default settings. Do likely, I would notice a bigger difference in 3dmark 2003, considering it's DX9 [I believe].

At least I hope.. hehe. Thanks!
