Really reduced 2D core clock?

Being that it is summer, and my, old poorly maintained apartment AC lacks the testicular fortitude to keep things under 75F (near 80 in the afternoon), my 6800 GT GPU idles at roughly 80C. I have two solutions for this. First I have my uber-ghetto cooling solution

This manages to drop the temps to 52C idle. (The little red security guard also defends my computer from performance stealing gnomes.)

I also lowered the 2D clock to 200Mhz (from 350 2D stock and I currently run 400 for 3D). Is this bad for my card? Even if I didn’t have cooling problems, I would still imagine that running the core at a lower 2D clock would significantly improve the lifespan of the card. This also means that I probably won’t have to use the noisy fan when I am not gaming.

Bottom Line!! Does anyone see any reason why I shouldn’t run my core at this reduced 2D speed?
 
hmm... that's a damn good question. I just thought to check the NV monitor, and it appears to still be running at 400.... my 3D speed.

so what is the 2D for then? how do i get my card to run in that?
 
Also, the uber-ghett cooling fan has managed to drop my ile temps to 52C... that's pretty damn low!
 
i dont think dropping the 2d speed affects the fan speed at all. I doubt its that smart, i have my 2d reduced to 300mhz, which i believe is desktop use
