I'm getting ready for a whole system upgrade, and I'm contemplating a Crossfire setup. The only probelm is I've never done it before and I don't know anyone who has. I'm wondering is what its REALLY like to have crossfire in your system. I've read plenty of performance reviews on crossfire and SLI, but aside from performance, are there any annoying things about crossfire that I should know about before I invest in it? Things like ease of setup, compatibility issues, crossfire motherboard issues, fan noise maybe? I just want to hear what people think of crossfire in terms of everything BUT performance.

Na there easy to set up the dongle is touchy wait for the RD580 chipset release its very soon coming its a true 32 lane pci-e 2x16 lanes and there will be another driver release by than.

The main drawback of Crossfire right now is the drivers for it.

There are few profiled games, and the ATI drivers do not let you set defaults for non-profiled like SLI does.

As bad, tiling is the default for all non profiled D3d games, which is most games. The problem with that is tiling does not scale geometry.

IMO that's the main stumbling block for Crossfire now.

John Reynolds wrote this very good article which covers much of the current downside.

Heh- that's the first post in the thread I linked to, and John himself has more comment in the thread.
