Very true, you cant come onto here expecting everyone;s mod to be "absolutley spectacular" because, think, most people dont have the skills to make awesome mods, so they settle with something thats more than just that plain, old, boring, case that doesnt require a lot of skills to do.

By the way, as mentioned above, dont shit on other peoples cases because YOU dont think its awesome quality. It just further shows your immaturity and cold heartedness not to congratulate somebody for something THEY accomplished.
 
Umm .. well yeah i believe alot of people do small mods to their comps.. their computer cases..
but its not a unique mod after a few people have done it a thousand times over...
so i feel where you are coming from ..what is unique is a custom computer case....... thats why i decided to do my own case..

I find most case modding to be gaudy and distasteful. Neon lights, LED fans, shiny chrome PSU's. I agree with FlamingTeddiz. Who cares if you purchase and install a cathode in your computer to go with your factory cut case window. There might be people that can do it tastefully but the majority of the cases end up looking worse and furthermore reduce the reliability of their computer and risk burning down their house.

The responses on this forum remind me of people talking about music. It's like the people that purchase the latest Eminem / Green Day / Snoop Dogg album and think they are cooler for what they have purchased. Earth to stupid, you just got swindled and paid $15.00 for an image that was created specifically to dupe you out of $15.00. You don't somehow magically rub cool on yourself by listening to one particular drum tempo over another. In a similar vein, Earth to stupid you just bought an LED fan that is of inferior quality to a regular fan, has a lower MTBF, and makes more noise and now you want to post pictures of it, brag about it, and not only that, if someone even hints that you might be better served focusing your energy on something more interesting than ANOTHER cold cathode, instead of being thankful and learning from it, you drown them out with angry posts attacking the person.

Some people are happy with, and can only afford a few things(ccfl,led,fans), not to mention, some people are not skilled with using tools, or could be afraid to take a Dremel to their case they just spent $100+ on......

I think it is actually great that people are not afraid to do something, even if it is adding a ccfl, to a new modder, that is a big step, and you have to start somewhere...

I wish I had not lost the pics of my other mods, that I did in the beginning, when I first started, they were not great, but I was proud of what I did, actually my very first project, was rather bold, replacing the entire case side with plexi, adding fans, painting (i don't do anything small), hinges and a lock on it...... for someone NEW to modding, that was an experience to remember.....

Stop your whining and show us yours, since you seem to have the attitude that you are the 'greatest' modder ever........


New modders come to sites like these to get 'suggestions','praise','critisism'.... they come to modding sites/forums and post their pics, so people that they do not know, can help them out, and to HEAR from people that they don't know and they might actually 'respect' in the modding community to give them advice etc.

People like you don't belong here.......... We will tell you what we think about the mods people post, be it positive or negative, and this is very useful info, for someone new or even experienced to modding, People like you seem to only see the Negative, and only want to complain,gripe,moan b*tch etc....... And just flame, as I said, and it is my opinion, YOU don't belong here......

And Put up or shut up.....Show us what you can do!!

I agree, I hate it when people go buy something to try to increase how "cool" they are when they don't even like it, or have no idea what it is. However, I don't think its wrong to buy something that is considered "cool" if you actually like it. I can't stand it when kids stop listening to music that they used to like because it became to popular. I've heard that many times with people who used to listen to Blink182. I don't thing it is bad or wrong if someone puts in an LED fan or cathode, etc... if actually they like how it looks.

When I look for fans, I look at the CFM and dB ratings before I look at the visuals. My fans have LEDs, yet they are quiet and flow relatively well for 80mm fans. If someone does buy if just cause "its purdy!", then thats stupid. Quality before looks.

I'm happy with the UV led fans in my case, and the UV cathode (to light up my sleeving), but I'm not going to brag about it. I know that its something that has been done many times before, its nothing special. I did not do it to be original, I did it because I like how it looks. On my next case, I'm going to be doing much more extensive modding, I might post that.

Modding all comes down making something look how you want. If you like the look of LEDs, cathodes, UV crap, bright colors, etc... then put that in your case. If you don't, then don't. After all its your computer, do what you want with it!

Amazing how you can flame him for having opinions, when you spent so much time discussing yours. If your going to bitch about someone expressing their opinion, then you better not voice yours. That is, unless you are too god-like to be hypocritical...

If you think that was a flame post then you are a little to sensitive and maybe need to re-read it carefully......

The point of my post was to see what he considers 'real' mods by showing his work, and maybe to find out what exactly his criteria is for a 'real' mod, and to maybe explain to him why people do just add a fan or ccfl......To some people adding a fan,cutting a blow hole,adding ccfl etc is a MOD.. and technically it is, but not according to him. I just wanted a clarification.

I don't see the flame there, and your quote was taken out of context, to appear as a flame.

And the point of the 'you don't belong here' comment was that someone who puts down someone elses creativity just because he doesn't feel it is a mod, honestly, doesn't belong on a modding forum, where we help each other and support each other, not attack them for adding 'another ccfl' ...............
 
When I read your post, I thought it was in reply to category_five, now I see that you were talking about the original post. Sorry bout the confusion.

these threads come up every now and again and always, they accomplish nothing...

modding has become commercialized and is not what it was before, we know... modding is main stream and you can go to your local compusa and load up on ccfl's, led fans, and all sorts of chromed things that probably shouldent be... we know...

bitching about it surely isnt going to help anything, if you want new and original stuff... well, either wait patiently for someone to do it, or do it yourself and contribute something to the community..

there is still a lot of neat stuff going on in the modding community, some of it may appeal to you, while some of it may not... modding, as an art, is something that is different to every person... while some person may think that a certain mod is the end-all of modding, 20 other people may think it sucks, thats the nature of art...
