Readyboost on virtual windows OS?

I'm running VMs constantly on my laptop and am running into memory limitations and storage bottlenecks. Since an appropriately-sized SSD is too expensive, and the memory is maxed out, I'd like to try Readyboost ---- but on windows 7 VMs using vmware workstation.

Can I map the flash device to the windows VM and use it for that? What kinds of devices can be used this way? (CF, SD, ATA, mini-pcie ssd, turbo mem) If I have a flash device mounted as a drive on the host, how can I tell the virtual win7 os to use it for readyboost?

Moreover, can I split (eg, partition) the flash device so that both the host and virtual OSs can use it for this?

Also, is there a linux equivalent of Readyboost?
