Well I wanna get ready for SLi this christmas, but with a limited budget, I wanna have my comp ready for the 2nd card. I would like to upgrade the RAM and CPU but need some help. Obviously I would want 2GB and my choice for RAM is this and my choice for CPU is the 3700+ as its the same thing as the 4000+ but just 200MHz slower (which I can OC to that speed). My question is, with a limited budget, which should I go for first? I have a restart issue that, when restarting or resetting, the comp delays before POSTing and I gotta believe its the CPU as I have swapped everything else but that and it still does it. I have booted up with as minimal as possible, RMA'ed the board, got the board replaced directly from Asus, tried numerious BIOS configurations...you name it, ive done it) and about 1/2 of the time while in the delaying time, it hangs which isnt normal. I have heard of no one else experiencing these problems. So anyways, i believe it to be the CPU, even though theres no other problems, just that. Which should I get first? Also, how much of a difference is there between the 3800+, 4200+ and the 4400+ X2 when compared to the 3700+ SD? Is any of the X2's the same as the 3700+ but just dual cored? Is it wise to save up a little more and go for the dual core? What about an increase in performance in games? How well do the X2's overclock? Which X2 do you recommend?

Also, would I notice an increase in performance over my OCed 3200+ if i go to the 3700+? X2 3800/4200/4400+? Thanks.

first, just a quick thing. don't buy a 3700, thats a complete waste of money for you. you own a 3200 that overclocks to being better than a 4000, at 2.5ghz, its like a 4100 or something. no, there is no performance difference between an overclock and stock. don't waste your money dood. I would wait on the dual core, yes they are great, and potentially amazing etc etc. but i you already have a good single core, wait for now. until socket M2, when dual core is actually programmed for.

and uh, i don't understand why your computer isn't ready for sli....uh, what isn't ready about it? you have the two most important things to be sli ready, an sli motherboard, and a great powersupply. so...what is the point of you post? you don't need anything else to be sli ready.

He's saying he's having stability issues and worried it might be his cpu and want's to know if getting a higher echelon chip might help.

To the OP. It could.. I have a 3500+ venice at 2.7ghz and haven't had any stability problems. A 3700 is even better than what I have. Have you prime95'd and made sure the system was stable with temps and voltage? Otherwise for pure speed your CPU is still good. An X2 won't give you a performance boost in games.. yet. I agree to wait a little longer for dual core to become the norm. And I doubt you'll really see much difference with a higher chip unless you were to get an FX put it on phase cooling and oc to 3.8ghz.

For your post reset issue try uninstalling the Nvidia IDE drivers.

2GB of ram is, of course, helpful. And if you want to get a new CPU, I would advise getting one of the S939 1xx Opterons now. People have OC'ed the 144 (1.8ghz stock) to 3ghz on AIR. Otherwise, wait for dual core. And as for dual core giving no performance boost in games, that is no longer true with the 8x.xx drivers.

yea 8x.xx drivers have some jive in there for x2. no point in upgrading to a 3700 or 4000. my 3700 @ 2850ish(around a pr of 4500+ according to sandra) almost exactly equal to my 3800 x2 @ 2850ish. only now i have 2 cpus.

So your saying go dual core and 2GB of RAM? How was the RAM I picked out? How well does the X2 OC? Is the multiplier unlocked or locked? Which X2 would you recommend? the 3800+ and OC it or go higher? Is there a difference between the 512 and 1MB of Cache? Isnt the 1xx Optys going Dual core / 939 soon?

Hold off on Dual Core.... Buy yourself more RAM... Just another 2x512mb will get you to 2gb. Ans grab yourself another GTX... Perfect gaming machine :D
