Raptor X 150gb

I have been pretty impressed with it so far. Peeps say they are loud, but it is quite quiet for a 10k drive. I can't hear it running till it does some action. Not like 15k scsi drives which sound like 747s firing up

What is your take on them?

My 2 cents, are they worth it, hard to tell. Fast as snot, not extremely hot, but quite warm. Gb for the $$ not at all. I got it on sale.

The ``worth it'' question can easily be answered with this formula:

worth it = relative cost/ relative utility 
relative cost = increase in utility vs. alternate product / (cost of alternate product * cost of capital)
relative utility = increase in utility vs. alternate product / utility of alternate product

Which implies that there is no universal answer to this question, but it depends on the person's financial situation and their wants w.r.t. storage system performance as well as the application which they use frequently and ...

I got my Dell branded raptor last summer and am reasonably happy with it. Do I think that it is the best thing since sliced bread? Nope.
