right now i have two raptors in Raid 0.

i was thinking about getting two more raptors.... but the question i have is would it be faster if i made a 4 disk Raid 0 array and partitioned off the space i need for just the OS and then another partition on the 4 disk raid array for games and then possibly another seperate partition for capturing DV.

or

make two 2 disk raid 0 arrays and just keep the arrays seperate?

would it be faster if i used all 4 drives in 1 array but partitioned it for use or would it be faster if i just left the two disk raid 0 array that i have now alone and made another two disk raid 0 array.

any insight would be great

also right now i have
2 raptors
2 40 gig maxtors
and
2 120 gig maxtors

i was wondering if i should be worrying about my psu being too small for all these drives

right now the 2 40 gig maxtors are in raid 0 also and i would probably be ditching those drives and replace them with the raptors....

Why don't you go one step further, and set up a Raid 5 Raptor array? I can bet that would blow some people away... if you could find a suitable SATA-Raid card.

I don't think you'll see any gains out of a 4-disk Raptor array. They're fast enough. Unless you're exercising your gigabit connection, the difference in transfer rate will probably be negligible. A bit of a waste to put those drives in with no extra space created, too.

You could do Raid 0+1 for redundancy, or...

dual Raid 0 arrays, like you mentioned.

I think your psu will be fine.

ok.. ill probably just do the dual Raid 0 arrays then

im using the onboard sata controller and i dont want to buy a aditional pci controller to get Raid 5.. so Raid 0 is pretty much the only option i have...

but thanks for the insight...
