Whyyyyyyyyy

Why must you be plugged directly into the wall?

Whyyyyyyyyy

Why do you hang my entire system when I decide to use you again for a large backup so you crash every and all things?

Whyyyyyyyyy

Why must I suffer through yet one more troubleshooting event of 30minutes over this and am likely to forget and do this all over again in 6months when I need you?

Not sure why this ever would be the case. Maybe you have a defective outlet on your power strip / UPS.

Perhaps the drive is bad. Did you look at the SMART status? Remember that regardless of how much you have used the drive (or what you paid for the drive) any drive can fail at any time.

Time for some basic troubleshooting. It sounds like. Do you need us to walk you threw how?

I wish. This seagate enclosure explicitly states it should be plugged directly into the wall and not through a surge protector. It is the desktop 8TB hub version. It is part of the troubleshooting tips and for me... it worked 100%. I have a number of 2TB that never have this limitation so I can only guess why this model requires a direct wall plug. " Plug adapter directly into the wall if in a power strip (Desktop Drives)"

I mean it could be my power strip but no other external fails this spectacularly or this way. Maybe save someone some grief

First try these troubleshooting steps:

Try a different port

Try a different cable

Try a different computer

Verify the drive light is on

Try a different power outlet (Desktop Drives)

Plug adapter directly into the wall if in a power strip (Desktop Drives)

Verify that it the drive feels like it is getting power

Is it overheating, check the temps when doing a long transfer.
