Ive been having an issue with my computer. Its randomly freezing on me. It usually does it when im not at it but ive had it do it in the middle of browsing the web before. It makes a screeching sound then the lights on the keyboard and mouse go off and the monitor goes blank. If i reset it then it runs fine. Ive checked the error logs with no problems. this is a fresh install of XP fully updated with all drivers up to date.

Any ideas? If this is the wrong section im sorry i dont know where else to put it.
any help is greatly appreciated.

Try to isolate where that screeching is coming from. fans/harddrives.

How long after resetting does it usually freeze?

Have you checked temps both vid and cpu?

Are timings set correctly for your ram? < would not cause screeching.

The sound comes through the speakers right when it freezes then all sound is cut.

Its random. It can be days or even minutes after bootup.

Temps are not high. I have temp programs loaded and nothing is even close to being high.

Ram Timings are on Auto and configured by the motherboard.

I would completely uninstall your SB Audigy 2 ZS as a test. If it crashes after that...it is one more thing you can rule out. Make sure you have the latest Audigy drivers at the very least.

I am waiting for some of the [H]eavy weights around here to give some opinions.

Unplug anything no necessary for the computer to run(sound card, tv tuners, front panel connectors, etc). See if that fixes it. Try a different video card if you can. Use one stick of ram at a time.
