Ram types are confusing me. Need some help.

I am choosing the parts for my friends upgrade and don't know which ram style/speed to get.

Here is the processor specs,
Intel Pentium 4/ 2.6C GHz 800MHz FSB, 512K Cache, Hyper Threading Technology - OEM
Specification
Model: Intel Pentium 4 2.6C w/ Hyper Threading
Core: Northwood
Operating Frequency: 2.6GHz
FSB: 800MHz
Cache: L1/12K+8K; L2/512K
Voltage: 1.525V
Process: 0.13Micron
Socket: Socket 478
Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, SSE2

I also need to choose a motherboard that is compatible with the Matrox RT2500 from this list of validated motherboards

He wants 1gig of Ram in the system as well.

Thanks for any info you guys/gals can provide.

Well the majority of those boards i see on the compatibility list don't list any boards that support 800mhz. So I don't know how that will hinder the performance of the chip, or even if the chip will work on those lower speed boards. Why get the Matrox? I'm not too familiar with what the card does? (I'm sorry to say.) If it's a vid card then why not get an ATi/nVidia card? I'm just going out on a limb here so please don't flame me (anyone :p)

With the 2.6C I think the minimum ram speed you'd want is the PC3200/DDR400 RAM because it runs at the speed of 200mhz (quadpumped to 800 or however intel works i'm not sure) The brand of RAM is also dependent on if your friend plans to OC his system at all. If he does I say get some Kingston HyperX, Corsair XMS or even Mushkin Level 2's for great OC'ing.

Don't flame me please(anyone :p) I'm still pretty new all this stuff and I apologize if my opinion seems a little biased in anyway.

That's just IMHO

Ya, I browsed through the boards and most were 2ghz or slower.
He already has the Matrox RT2000 digital video editing card, but on the list of boards that they validated, the PIII was the highest cpu listed. The RT2500 is similiar to the RT2000, only major difference is that the 2500 doesn't need the dedicated G450 video card that comes with the 2000.

I've decided to get this board,

ASUS 865G Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU, Model "P4G800-V" -RETAIL
Specifications:
Supported CPU: Socket 478 Intel Pentium 4 Processors
Chipset: Intel 865G

If it doesn't work with the RT2000, oh well, we'll just keep it in the old P3 machine.
