OK, so I'm not much of a OC fiddler, and with my Gigabyte motherboards, my experience with XMP profiles is that they always just worked. With my Asus Sabertooth X99 (with 5820k), the XMP profile for my Corsair Dominator RAM rated at 2800mhz (4x16GB for 64GB total) has given me nothing but headaches, from random freezes to BSODs. I've played with multiple BIOS configs, OCing the RAM with everything else @ stock, but really to no avail. Apparently there have been a litany of issues with Asus MBs and Corsair RAM XMP profiles. I've read elsewhere that manually setting speed, timings, and voltage would probably help.
My question is this: Can I run RAM at below rated speeds, and is there a resource available that would provide the timings for my RAM at these lower OC speeds, such as 2400 or 2666mhz? Maybe I'm misunderstanding this whole process. Bottom line, I'd rather not spend days tinkering around in the BIOS. I guess I'm fine running the RAM at stock 2133mhz speeds if I get to keep my CPU OC, but, being silly really, I'd like to see if I can minimally hit the 2400 I was getting with my Ripjaws.
Thank you for your time and help.
