RAM Speed Question

I was wondering if you can safely run RAM at a slower speed then it says it runs at. For example. I want tog et an Althon XP Berton core at 333 MHrz FSB. Would I be able to use PC3200 (400 MHrz) memory with it. I plan on upgrading to a processer with a 400 MHrz FSB in the future.
 
You can run the RAM at speeds lower than its rated speed just fine.

PC3200 is rated for 400 Mhz max, but it doesn't mean it can't run at 333, or 266, or 200.
 
Although, I have tried to run ddr400 memory on some older 266 mobos, with no luck.

Although it is possible on new mobos.
 
As long as the motherboard supports the factory speed of the RAM, you should be able to run it at lower speeds fine...Don't know why you would want to though.

Because most AMD people say your best performance is with a 1:1 ratio between FSB and RAM speed. Therefore, if he's not OCing, he would run it down at PC2700 speeds.
 
Exactly. Plus, if I get 3200 instead of 2700 and just run it at 333 MHrz for now, I can have my RAM going at full potential (with the CPU's FSB) without upgrading to 3200 RAM after I upgrade to a CPU with a 400 MHrz FSB.

So, best performance is a 1:1? I'll be running PC3200 RAM at 333 MHrz then. Thnx for the help guys!
