RAM speed compatibility

If i got one of those 400 FSB AMD processors instead of one of the older 333 FSB processors such as the Barton 2500+, would i then not be limited to the DDR333(PC2700) RAM as well and instead be able to use DDR400 RAM (PC????) with this setup? AMD processor, abit NF7-S mobo

Your not limited to PC2700. You can use any speed you want. If you buy PC3200 you can overclock your FSB to 200Mhz to get your RAM at DDR400 speeds synchronously.

Upgrading to a 400 FSB Athlon XP would not be much of an upgrade. If your going the AMD route your best to wait for 939 socket A64 or the new Athlon XP's on socket 754.

if you got a 3200 instead of a 2500, you want to know if you would be limited to 333fsb instead of being able to to use 400fsb.

i still dont get it

you can use the 2500 with pc3200 (ddr400), but by stock it will be at 333, but with the wonders of abit, there is, infact, a setting that automaicly makes your 2500 run at 3200 speed. so even if you did get the 2500, get the faster ram, and then OC to 3200++ speeds. i had my freinds at 2.2ghz with in seconds...

He thinks that he is limited to PC2700 by using a 333FSB processor. So he asked if he upgraded to a 400FSB processsor if he could then use DDR400. Well that answer is just that you can use any speed you want and in order to get the FSB and RAM running at that higher speed you will have to overclock. By default, no matter what the speed of the RAM is, it will run at the speed of the FSB.

Well, first the NF7-S only supports 400mhz FSB on revision 2.0 or later, 1.x only up to 333.

assuming that, you can of course upgrade to a 400mhz FSB chip and use DDR400.
