RAM GHOSTING/new hdd

anyone know if there is any reports or known instances of some kind of dynamic ram ghosting data and then that old data ending up on a new hdd after you have replaced the hdd. I realize that, at least in theory, RAM loses its contents after being powered down. Put there are some theories about RAM ghosting. Anyway, just wondered if it was ghosted, could old data in RAM, such as the CPU, end back up on the HDD. That is, if any data was even there in the first place.

If I understand what you are saying.. no, it is impossible. DRAM does not store any data without power.

Flash RAM is different, but your computer uses that to store it's BIOS, so you won't be using that to store data that is not on your HD.

All long term storage is in the HD. (or burned to cd, or on tape, but you know what I mean)

so where does the data that was orginally there go, to your hdd or does it just disappear?

What is POST?
 
Power On Startup Test. When you turn the machine on and it counts up memory, it writes to each location to make sure it's working. The "data" that was there (when you turn on the machine there's nothing) is lost.

 
Okay by me :p I didn't look it up or anything, and that expansion makes more sense anyways... no harm no foul.

 
I have always understood the S to stand for self, but startup isn't exactly wrong either. He is correct about how it tests the memory though, it simply writes a value to each memory location and then tries to read it, to make sure it matches.
