RAM Amount

Would more then 1GB of RAM be used in UT2K4, HL2 and Doom 3?

....not sure what benefit there'd be for gaming. Most folks here that game run a gig with no concerns.

CAD, computer animation / rendering, video editing, large photoshop image editing.....whole different story. Hard to have enough in these applications.

Well, since only one of those games is actually released, we can only comment on one of them. I have been hitting the high 600 MBs, and briefly touching into 700 Mbs of memory usage for UT2004, BF:V, etc. I personally think at this point, on a gaming machine, 1 GB is the sweet spot. Anything less, and you could do better....anything more and it's not needed.

UT2K4 does not. You should be fine with 1 gig, but no one can say for sure about HL2 or Doom 3. BF1942 uses well over 512 it can approach 1 gig.

The more the merryer, and in a game like UT2k4, it won't use all of the ram in your machine, like if you have a 1gig the game will max out around 700mb-800mb. Same goes for apps that use alot of ram like 3dMax. If you have 1.5 Gigs chances are that threshold will increase. More RAM wouldn't hurt, I'd love to have at leas 2 gigs.
