I have a HP xw4400 running XP pro and I want to add a HD and configure a RAID1 mirror using the integrated Intel SATA RAID controller.

Can the mirror be created without destroying the OS/data on the original source drive?

If so, are there any pre-requisites, ie software to be installed on the OS prior to BIOS/RAID configuration?

Creating the mirror will not destroy the data that currently exists however I would always do a backup first. No software should be necessary other than maybe drivers which should already be loaded and monitoring software if there is any.
